Mezzanine Properties:

Mezzanine Understructure: Steel shelving units or pallet racking

Mezzanine Stairs, Gates, and Handrail: Common Stairs: OSHA and BOCA. Common Handrail: Horizontal 2 and 3 Rail.  Common Gates: generally no gates but any gate will work, usually material lifts are used to transport product from floor to mezzanine..  For more info see Mezzanine Stairs, Mezzanine Gates, Mezzanine Guardrail.

Decking Options: Common varieties are: B-Deck and Plywood, Bar Grating, Plank Decking.  For more info see Mezzanine Decking.

Finishes: Generally speaking, shelving and pallet rack have a wet paint or powder coat paint finish.  For more info see Mezzanine Finishes.

Benefits: Shelving / rack supported mezzanines or "catwalk systems" are designed for high density storage.  They are very cost effective, combining the storage and the structure into one unit.

Drawbacks: Once the system is up and installed it is very difficult to rearrange the layout.  Shelf heights can be easily changed but that's about it.
